Placement Exam
World Languages and Cultures offers a computer-based, adaptive placement exam in most of the 7 languages we offer for students wishing to enroll in a language course at Drake of a language which they have previously studied. The fee for the exam is $22 and is billed to students' account. The exam lasts approximately 40 minutes.
For Entering First Year students with prior experience in their language of choice: The placement test should be taken between April 1st and May 29th. The test will be taken online, accessed through the BlueView system. As the test is online and is not proctored, students can take the test at a date and time which is convenient for them. Please allot one hour for the exam. There is a $22 fee for each exam which will appear on your first Drake bill. The results will be available immediately after the exam; please note your score for registration at orientation.
For those Entering First Year students who are beginning a language new to them, they will be able to register for the 001 level at summer orientation-no placement exam is needed. Note, students who have any prior experience with the language, must take the exam. Only students with zero knowledge of a language will be allowed to take the 001 level.
For sophomores and up, the exam will also be administered online. Email christen.bain@drake.edu to receive the login information and more details about the exam.
