Fine Arts Center // x1994 // heather.skeens@drake.edu
In the fall of 2006 Heather Skeens joined the staff of the Department of Art & Design as Director of the Anderson Gallery. Following her interest in 19th and 20th century American art and culture, Skeens' first curated exhibition, "Selling the War: Posters of World War I," examined the visual culture of wartime propaganda. During Skeens' time at Drake, the gallery has exhibited the work of emerging contemporary artists from home and abroad. The gallery also hosts exhibitions of historically significant bodies of work, with past exhibitions exploring themes in work from Africa, China, Japan, Cuba, western Europe and the United States.
Heather received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History and her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Iowa in 2004, and is currently working on her Masters in History at Iowa State University.
